Works of Inaugural Meeting of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee Summed Up

The RA NA delegation, where representatives of all factions represented in parliament, led by Armen Ashotyan took part in the works of the Inaugural Meeting of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee in Strasbourg on October 24.

At October 31 press conference, the Head of the delegation informed that Committee received tool set for implementing monitoring and control. It is authorized to get full information and address questions to the European Commission and other heads of the European institutes.

Armen Ashotyan has underlined that as a result of joint work of the legislative and executive authorities of our country a final statement has been adopted, which in detail refers to the external and inner problems of Armenia.

According to the speaker, in the provisions relating to the Karabakh conflict settlement the viewpoints of the peoples of Armenia and Artsakh on the problem are included and the peoples' right to self-determination is highlighted. The document also calls on all the EU Member States to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. It refers to ensuring the principle of separation of the authorities in Armenia, the upcoming parliamentary elections, laying obligation on ensuring the transparent, fair conditions for all political forces conducting peaceful pre-electoral campaign.

The statement calls on the Armenian political forces to refrain from any use of hate speech, intolerance or violence, so that the democratic stability of the country and the integrity of the Armenian society are not undermined.

Emphasizing the electoral reforms it calls on the Armenian authorities to take into consideration all the recommendations made by the OSCE/ODIHR.

Armen Ashotyan also answered the journalists' questions.
